Grace Church Installation
Grace Evangelical’s head technician likes the V-Mixing System for easy setup, password protection for sound team, and the built-in USB recording function.
Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church is on the move. They recently made modern improvements to their sanctuary while maintaining the beautiful, more traditional, aesthetics. They installed new seating, lighting and a state of the art sound system which includes the RSS V-Mixing System. A gathering space with coffee shop was also added with audio and flat screens to carry announcements and the service.
The System
A Basic V-Mixing System was installed which includes one S-1608 stage boxe and the M-400 V-Mixer console. The current configuration utilizes sixteen wired channels at the platform (which goes to REAC A) and eight local inputs on the console for the wireless mics. “We went ahead and ran another inexpensive piece of Cat5 from the console to the amp room. This will allow us to add an additional twenty-four channels in the future just by adding another S-1608 or forty channels by adding an S-4000 Digital Snake unit.” Ed Whitney from Metro said.
Steve Wood heads up the sound crew and really likes how easy the V-Mix is to operate and save set-ups. He said “I can easily get around on the mixer and set-up basic operations for my sound team. I can make it as simple as letting them access the sliders only or as we train, allow them greater access to other parameters. I am discovering something new on the mixer every time I use it. I really like it!”
The built in recording feature on the V-Mixer is also a very important part of the system. The team at Grace Evangelical Lutheran simply connect a USB “thumb drive” and record the stereo mix directly to the USB drive at CD audio quality. Once recorded they simply use a CD burner to transfer and duplicate the service for distribution to their members.
Application
Rod Rice and Paul Hotchkiss headed up the church’s task force to set the standards for the project and the sound and video systems. They wanted a sound system that would grow with the church, be technically advanced but easy to use. They hired Metro Audio and Video based in Columbus Ohio. Metro’s roots in the design/install business go back more than thirty years. While managing a retail outlet for a large central Ohio music store chain, Metro co-owner Ed Whitney saw an increasing need for concert quality audio installations in local schools and churches as trends in music and the technology that drove those changes evolved rapidly. Ed and his business partner, Mike Hockenberry, launched Metro Audio Video in the Spring of 2005, focusing all of their attention on what they do best: system design and installation. Mike and Ed have over 50 years of combined audio, video, and lighting installation experience. After meeting with the project team members at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Chruch, the design/install team at Metro Audio Video immediately thought of the RSS by Roland V-Mixing System. The system was ideal for their immediate needs and allows for future growth of the choir, orchestra and praise team members. The V-Mixing System was not only easy to install but more importantly it has resulted in outstanding sound quality.
